I have an '85 turbo and it's had some wiring issues, but I want to emphasize that unless you're looking for a project it's probably overkill to replace the whole wiring harness. If your car is like mine, the wiring inside the car is perfect. I've only had issues with wires in the engine compartment and in the driver's side door jamb area.
One day I inspected the bundle of wires going parallel to the fuel rail. I sliced open the wiring loom and found a mess of crumbling insulation. Some wires I replaced, others I reinsulated with electrical tape, others I painted with liquid electrical tape. I then replaced the old loom with some nice corrugated split loom from radioshack or wherever.
If the '85 is your daily driver then it makes more sense to tackle the problem in bite-sized pieces as a series of weekend projects. Ideally it would be easiest to have a spare harness so that you could take out sections of wires and connectors and use them to replace damaged areas of your existing electrical system.
