I did this last year -- likely without the best tools. If you take everything off of the hangers and get it clear of the car it's easier. You'll have to cut the tailpipe behind the cat to clear the axle. Mine was so rusty I hit the clamp with a dremel tool and banged on it until it came apart. Once you are clear of the car use a grinder then drill the studs out of the holes. I understand that a torch makes this job alot easier. But I didn't have one. I also heard that you can grind the studs flat (which is easier than drilling) and then get those universal exhaust flange clamp things to attach the cat to the header and to the intermediate pipe. I didn't. Just get clear of the car if you can and grind, drill, or torch away. I was actually able to take the cat -- with a big piece of intermediate pipe still attached down -- to the basement, clamp it, and work where it was warm. This helped. Good luck. At least you won't have to do it again. I put my exhaust back together lying upside down in a pile of mud/snow in March of last year. Best to get it sorted before winter.
