There's no problem swapping in a later transmission as far as the fit goes. Assuming it's US & Canadian market, you'll find that the gearing in the later transmisison is so close that you won't notice any difference.
It's a good deal all around, assuming that the used one is good or it's a good rebuild.
The really good thing is that you can install a transmission from a '90 or later non-turbo and you'll find the the gearing is the same. If you want, you could use the solid mount that comes with the non-turbo or you can swap the front covers of the transmissions and use the hydraulic mount from your existing one. this assumes US and Canadian markets. I don't have any info about other markets.
I have a transmission from a '92 non-burbo that I'll be putting in my '89 SPG. I've been researching the gearing, etc on these transmissions.
