I've pseudo steam-cleaned my engine before. When I plumbed my house I connected a hot water line to the outside hose line. It's obviously not on all the time, it's valved, I just turn it on when I need it. I turned just the hot water on and connected it to my pressure washer ON A LOW SETTING. I sprayed the COLD engine with a good degreaser (usually simple green, nothing too harsh) and let it sit for awhile. Then I hot sprayed it. Picture putting your engine in your dish washer. It gleams. For areas like electrical connections which it's a good idea to cover, I sprayed them with brake cleaner afterwards.
I don't advise cold washing a hot engine. I bought a truck from someone who did that to the engine just before I bought it. It warped the head.
