Hi all, I have just purchased an 85 spg about a week ago. When I purchased the car it was only running base boost because the owner (saab mechanic) had taken out the turbo over pressure switch (i believe) He told me the part goes in the dash. Wish I knew for sure but it is my first saab after switching from aircooled vw's. I have a bently manual coming so I can identify it for sure. Anyway he removed the pressure switch and he heard clicking so he unplugged two wires near the radiator to get that to stop. So i have been driving the car for a few days without full boost and all was fine. Last Saturday I had a pickup start to merge into me, so i dropped the car into second to accelerate. What happened was the car started to accelerate and the engine cutoff and I lost all power. (now i think i noticed the apc needle go into the yellow but i wasn't 100% sure. I was unable to get the car to start. It would turn over a few times but immediately cut out again. I popped the hood and started following my ignition wires. I noticed wires coming off the distributer were rotten. These wires run to the computer and I assume they control timing/spark.

I then went for the long walk home, grabbed some extra wire and replaced the rotten wire. After I was finished the car started right up and ran great. I drove the car a few more days thinking I had solved the problem.

Last night I was on my way home from work. Driving about 55 miles an hour and started to accelerate as traffic was clearing and I could bring the car up to 65 or 70. As I did this the car cut out again. I was forced to pull over on the side of the road again. when I came to a stop, turned everything off, tried to start it, nothing. I waited on the side of the road wondering, now what the hell am i going to do? good 10 miles from home traffic wizzing by at 70, not a very wide shoulder. So i waited about ten minutes. Tried it again and the car started. was rough for a second or two, and than ran normal. I let it idle for a few minutes and I babied the car all the way home making sure not to apply too much boost.

Anyone know what is going on? I do plan on putting the pressure sensor put in this weekend and hooking up those two wires which i hope will provide full boost again. Are the problems I am seeing related to not having the turbo running at full boost? When the boost goes into the yellow, is that causing the engine to protect itself and the turbo so it cuts out? Or is there something else I need to address before hooking the turbo back up? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks Ryan
