I re-upholstered the front seats of my '86 SPG using the skins and foam from used (but very nice) 9000 seats. I later added the 3-position switches and wired the whole thing up.
I would imagine that you could add the switches to your existing system by removing/bypassing the thermo-switch inside the seat.
