In order to get the radio code from a dealer, the VIN is often useless since radios fail and are swapped regularly.
Bring the following information to the dealer:
1. Radio part number (on radio case)
2. Radio serial number (on radio case)
3. Proof of ownership of the car, not often the case, but they may ask. I know you'll need it to grind a key now. This can be supplied by bringing in a registration or insurance card, bill of sale, or as a last result, the title. Again, it's a long shot that they will ask you this.
Yep, the code has to be entered every time power is interrupted to the radio, like when the fuse goes or if you disconnect the battery. That's also the reason you may have a little sticker on the left rear window that looks like a stop sign.
It hasn't been specifically said, but you'll need either a very small punch or Saab radio removal tools to remove the radio from the dash. Pretty much, you insert said tools into the four holes toward the edges of the radio and pull it out of the dash. Very simple.
Good luck. Post again if you have any more questions.
