auto transmission fluid level question

Is it just me or does everyone else with AT have difficulty reading their transmission level dipstick.

I have a 89 automatic and whenever I check my transmission dipstick it's very hard to see since the fluid is almost clear. Also the dipstick seems to bend pulling out, smearing the fluid so I'm not sure if I'm gettting an accurate reading.
When I pull it out, there is a thin layer of fluid between the min and max where it should. But way below the min mark at the bottom, there is a 'puddle' of fluid where it is more visible.

Should there be an obvious fluid amount between the min and max or should it show up just as mine, barely visible? I was thinking of continuing to fill it until the 'puddle' at the end of the stick moved up between the min and max mark but afraid it would be too much fluid.
I hope my post was not too confusing. When I check my oil, it is obvious where the level is. Please let me know how you guys check your automatic transmission fluid. thanks and have a great weekend
