Wow you are adventurous, aren't you? This job is a serious PITA! Since you made it this far, I'm sure that you can get it off eventually. But re-sealing it is the real trick.
Now did you get ALL the bolts?
I assume that you have all the horizontal bolts to the block removed, including the ones though the water pump into the block.
At the bottom there are 2 more going into the trans. Technically 1 bolt, one stud (and the stud must be completely removed).
Now there are still 2 bolts going UP into the cylinder head. Did you get those?
The cover has to move towards the firewall, until you clear the alignment dowels (2). Then you can move it slightly out of the 'wedge' between the head and trans and lift it out.
Everything is a sealing surface...the head, trans, and sides of the block. Be careful not to rip up the head gasket or transmission gasket. Note that there is not a gasket from the timing cover to the block. Clean everything thoroughly. Use Loctite 518 or similar sealant. Good luck!
