Try putting the tie rod back into the spindle. Just put nut on finger tight. There should be a portion of the "rod" comming from the rack that has been flattened out. Use your vicegrips with breakerbar, or wrench with breaker to get enough leverage to turn the rod out of the joint. Once you get the rod out, just remove nut...
