Last night I tried my heater for a short while and it didnt seem to work so I tried on the way home from work for a short while again.
When I pulled up at the lights I could hear a spitting noise from behind the dash and then I realized that the temp was hotter than normal and I started smelling the burning water smell.
When I pulled over and opened the bonnet I had no radiator fluid and water was spitting slowly from where the hose (that I think lets water out from behind the firewall) meets the firewall. There is two hoses going into the firewall and it was the lower one. I undid both hoses and when I pulled the top hose off what I expected to be a pipe coming out of the firewall came out with the hose (thats why I think the top one must let water in). Then I undid the lower hose and it does have a pipe coming out of the firewall. The hose is a tiny bit short really but I did them both up again, though doing up the top one hardly makes sense as it just plugs into the hole in the firewall. I havent driven the car again yet.
Anyway... I think that a couple of years ago the mechanic fixed what I think was a stuck valve that was stopping my heater working. I dont really know what is wrong now. It does seem to coincide with trying my heater. Last time I tried it was all working fine.
If you think there is anything I can do for myself please let me know.
Regards Sarah
