first check your fluid level. Look in the sepearate partitioned section close to the fender. If low, you have a leak. Likely leak sources include the slave cylinder or the flex section of the hydraulic line that feeds the slave. Brake fluid will often be visible at the flywheel inspection slot or around the hose depending on leak source.
If no leaks or fluid loss, suspect the master cylinder. This is my bet for what happened.
The seals eventually give out and you will lose your pedal action. You can either rebuild the master with a $10 rebuild kit or put in a new/rebuilt master for under $100. The only risk to the kit is if the master cylinder bore has any pits or score marks. If so, expect that the new seals will either tear soon or will not seal properly. I personnaly would try the rebuild kit and inspect the bore for pitting/marks.
The master can be removed by unhooking the pedal yoke and removing two nuts. You can access the master without dropping the knee bolster. Best to remove the front seat so you can stretch out and reach up under the dash. When you reinstall, start the threads on the fluid line connector to the master before you connect the master to the firewall. The connector is hard to get started if the master is in place.
