It's not that there's any less basic retard
My understanding of the AID is that it has a flatter degrees-of-retard vs. PSI-boost curve than the stock unit so that, for a given PSI of boost, you have less retard with the AID and, because of that, a greater need for knock-resistant gas when you're in boost.
Monster had a really good writeup on it a couple of years back.
Are you getting better gas mileage with your setup than stock?
