Seat heaters, especially on the non-switched ones, are so easy to fix, I don't know why I waited so long to do mine. Trust me, you're just getting out on the road and all of a sudden, OOOH! Hot butt!
If you decide to fix them, we'll walk you through it. Have your wire strippers, solder and soldering iron ready, pull the lower cover off the seat, and have at it. It's a cool way to treat yourself every time it's colder than you want it to be and are in a bad mood.
900s rock in the snow- just go easy on the gearbox when it's cold, like you said. My second gear synchro only does this when it's below 35 degrees (F) outside, but with Mobile One in the transmission it got way better. I've used 5/30- Hmmmmm. Also I changed the fluid to something cheap for about a week and then changed it again for the equivalent of a fluid "flush." There should be a large magnet inside the case, and on your first change, clean that all out, then replace the gasketry after the second fluid change.
Have fun, keep it under a hundred, and don't hit any guardrails.
