Has anybody had experience with the following situation:
You own an old Saab in nice condition with some investment made in restoration/repair by yourself and an independent Saab mechanic.
The car has a "book value" of maybe 2k, but you could have it appraised for $6k and get written/photo evidence to accompany appraisal.
You don't have collision coverage on it, and somebody (with insurance) totals your Saab and they are at fault.
You file a claim with the other person's insurance company to get 6k.
How much success should you expect, and if they fight it, would a court see things differently?
This is hypothetical, but I am debating whether the $4k differential is worth the coverage. If I can reasonably expect to get the money from a guilty party's insurance company (or from the individual in court) based on a legitimate appraisal, I think forgoing the collision is reasonable.
Thanks
