'86 8V 4dr, 5 speed - I get between 30-33 on the highway, and rarely drive above 70. In town it averages about 28. I put 24K on the car in the past 12 months...
I agree with all the commentary on driving style. I upshift and cruise around town (even in the 25MPH zone) in 4th gear. It's a stick, so if I need to get out the way quickly, I just pop it into 2nd and scoot. I also try not to tach the car up when it's not needed. Obviously 'lugging' the engine is as bad (or worse) than revving it, but with practice, I've found I can actually keep the car well under 2K rpm for most of my driving. Another interesting note is that starting and stopping the engine frequently will affect your gas mileage. Those 2 mile trips to 7-11 are not only hard on a cold engine, they skew your fuel mileage.
Just my .02 cents,
nukeday
