Mixture appears rich - pulled codes

My 1993 900i (non turbo) seems to be running rich. The car has done 98 000 miles. I‘ve suspected this is the case since I bought the car a few months ago. The fuel consumption is a little heavy (based on comparisons from messages on this board) and the tail pipe is fully black. Plugs indicate the same. On start up (always first attempt), there is a little smoke (the engine uses no oil) and an apparent misfire/stumble for about the first 10 seconds. However, the car drives and accelerates OK thereafter. The car idles OK and gives no other untoward symptoms.
I’ve checked the system through now – replacing plugs etc, replacing air cleaner, cleaning AIC/throttle body, checking for vacuum leaks. I’ve checked the temperature sensor (OK) and I’ve pulled the vacuum pipe from the FPR - there was no fuel present indicating the FPR is OK.
On checking the O2 Sensor leads with a good quality (Megger) analogue meter, I get a swing between about .1 to .7 (indicating lean?) but the swing appears a little erratic. Today, I pulled the codes using information on this board and obtained 12112 which indicates a ‘incorrect air/fuel mixture at idle’.
At this point, I’ve done about as much diagnosis as I can and would appreciate some help/thoughts please.
Tim
