I don't know for sure - but I'm guessing you do have to find 8ohm speakers for the fronts. It's not the speakers that are at risk, it's the radio's amplifier.
Ohms is the measure of resistance. And it's bass ackwards from what is sensible. The lower the number, the higher the resistance, by the same ratio. 8ohm speakers have 1/2 the resistance of 4ohm speakers. So to go from 8 to 4, you are doubling the resistance load that your amp section has to overcome with current. You only have voltage, current and resistance to work with. Voltage is fixed. So raise resistance and you have to raise current to compensate. The amp section may or may not handle it. Not sure. Lots of amps are built to take 4 or 8 without any problem. I don't know with the Saab amps though.
