Like Huey posts, it has been done many times before (I have on my 89 when the trans was rebuilt and still works great nearly 100k later). It really depends how badly damaged they are and whether you have an automatic or manual trans. There is some good info from Townsend Imports on their site (it is not working now unfortunately).
The funny thing is, the Bently and other sources warn against taking both drivers out at the same time as the spider gear will fall to the bottom of the case, requiring the transmission to be opened up. According to Townsend, this is no big deal and one can put the spider back in the correct position with the engine/trans in the car.
I have Twonsend's instructions printed out in front of me since I'm in the middle of replacing one inner driver. I quote:
"You can never begin this job with the mindset of swapping them. You cannot tell the condition until they are apart. So be prepared the change them and be happy if you don't, not unhappy if you can't and now the car is apart and you have no new drivers or seals to go in."
