Let us pry....
In my case, I found that the 1/2" nuts wouldn't have done it, so I used a pair of 1-1/8" nuts as a device to hold the pressure plate off the flywheel.
I prefer the prying method over trying to cut the slave in half because it's takes a lot less time (even considering a sawzall), you don't have to clean up a lot of metal grit, and there's no metal grit to get into the primary case through the primary shaft porthole.
It all shows you that there's more than one way to skin a cat (much to the ASPCA's dismay.)
While you're in there, replace the primary shaft seal and the pilot bearing.
