Ok here's what I know Elbow grease Posted by Inga [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: A cleaner machine, RayF, Fri, 7 Jan 2005 16:15:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I would not use the oven cleaner. Yes, it will remove just about everything from under the hood, But that would include every bit of paint that stuff touches. And trying to mask it off is near impossible. If it was me, I'd wait till I replaced the head gasket. Or you can do what I'm already doing and get a spare end and start tearing it down for cleaning. Check out the link below. I have slowly rebuilt/replaced the eng bay. Hot water at the jet spray place up the street work out most of the crap. But the "aluminum oxide corrosion" will need to be chemically treated or sanded off. I used a wire brush and wheel to clean mine. Course it was off the car too!
BTW I heard of spraying foam tire cleaner to make everything look new. Flip side is, that an oil in there and oil just catches the dirt for you.
All and all the answer to your question is there isn't an easy way. I'd say that's why almost everybodys eng bay in dirty.
