As always, as soon as a mechanic has touched the car something else will break (Murphy's law), sometimes completly unrelated to what he did and sometimes because something got knocked out of place by his actions.
I would first of all check the black grounding strap between alternator body and engine to make sure it is solid and also check the tiny wire going from alternator up to red charging lamp on instrument cluster.
Both of those wires will stop the alternator from charging the battery if they break, and they will, if the alternaor bushings are worn out allowing the alternator to rattle around.
The third step is to remove the voltage regulator pack and inspect the brushes. That could be difficult if the shop doesn't know Saabs and maybe not have the interest to help out the customer in a low cost way.
When the voltage regulator is out they need to inspect the copper commutator in alternator. If the brushes have worn deep grooves in the commutator it could be difficult to save it by just installing a new voltage regulator, but the whole alternator need replacement.
So it's many different scenarios and it comes down to the knowledge and willingness of the shop.
