I put in a set of Intrax springs, Bilstein HD Sport shocks, better brake pads, new calipers and wider rims on my '88 900. Much better ride and it hangs in there on the autocross course. I didn't do an alignment (it gives it some good camber) and i decided to wait and see if it tore up the tires. It didn't. It's been about 25 or 30,000 miles and all is well. It's a pretty easy process, just soak EVERYTHING in penetrating fluid for about 2 weeks beforehand! You might need a BIG pair of vice-grips to keep the shock pistons from turning when the nut stays frozen on though...
