You wouldn't be happy with tape and it would soon make a mess. Try seat covers - - sheepskin that are made to fit would be great this time of year and actually are comfy even in summer heat. Or if as in many cars I've seen it's mainly the driver's side that's a problem, you could buy a good passenger seat out of a junkyard and get an auto upholstery shop to skin it out and put that on, or do it yourself (some subtle fasteners to remove, including a mess of s-hooks from below/behind). A stitching awl and some nylon thread can be used with patience to re-stitch by hand, thru existing holes, those worn-out seams, but you have to go thru all the seat-skinning hassle first and re-skin it once it's stitched up.
There are leather repair shops that work absolute wonders with wear-and-weather damaged or burnt or cut leather (I pity the unsuspecting buyer of some of their re-creations) and there's a supplier to them (doesn't sell to just anybody) that has a website, Classic Dye Products, where they detail some of these techniques and even post before-and-after photos of them. They glue a tough backing material under cracks or holes with their proprietary adhesive, patch in a new piece of similar leather if there's much missing, fill the cracks or big gaps with a special leather fill, usually pigmented to match, use release paper to imprint grain in the fake areas, then spray on a water-based urethane dye-paint they make, with all kinds of additives to give it leather "feel" or dull the gloss, and little tricks to make a bubbly grain on the surface.
They talk their stuff up like it's pretty good and given what wizardry is possible it could well hold up like iron.
They don't list Saab as a make they stock ready-mixed spray cans for however.
Around here (Northeast) there's lots of Saabs in junkyards or parked in yards never to be used again and I've seen some good to awesome leather seats in iron that was yards away from the crusher. Even good driver's seats. Vinyl upholstery paint that you can get at an auto parts store does an okay job on leather that's not too oily if you got one the wrong color.
