If you look in the dealer's lot, there probably aren't any, or many, cars over 3 years old and out of warranty. 99.95% of folks looking to purchase cars at the dealer don't want the older car.

Regardless of how well you've kept the car up, it is 14 model years old.
Any mechanical part could fail at any given time. The dealer is probably required by state law to provide some sort of warranty, even if only a 30 day 50-50. He will almost be forced to inspect the car and repair/replace worn parts, especially if they are safety related. This will cost him money--maybe a hour or two of labor, maybe much more. The most he can probably expect to sell the car for is not worth any investment on his part.

He still has overhead--taxes, utilities, taxes, paperwork, taxes, labor charges, taxes, commissions, taxes--and did I mention taxes?

Unless the tradein is in excellent condition, relatively low mileage, and preferably still under warranty, it will go the the auction. There, it will get something, and he won't have to invest anything.

Both of you are better off if you get rid of it yourself.

About 12 years ago, I had a chance to buy my neighbor's 85 900T for a couple thousand. I took it to a shop and had a pre-purchase inspection. The list totalled up to about $3500 (if they did everything). I told the neighbor to take whatever tradein he got--wasn't worth it to me.
On Sat AM he called me--dealer offered him $1000. I took it, did most of the work myself--shop did about $1100 worth. I put in another $200 in parts and some labor.
