Inner driver or tripod bearing Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 1991 900C - shakes under power above 50 - HELP!, Three Saab Franklin, Sun, 23 Jan 2005 05:36:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If this came on suddenly, it might be that one of the tripod bearings has been running dry and has started falling apart. The same thing happened recently to regular on the board.
If you DIY (with 3 SAABs, you either DIY or you're wealthy ;-), put it up on jackstands and look inside the boots on the inner CV joints. Check for the presence of grease and little bits of needle bearings.
A bad motor mount will amplify the effects of a failed tripod/inner driver. If the tripod bearing has started to disintegrate, you'll get less vibration if you replace it with a new one. A replacement inner driver (called a companion flange by SAAB) may be in your future.
This doesn't rule out other things, but it's a good bet.
