I've been driving my first Saab, '90 900 4dr, since last July, ran like a champ up until Sat. night. I parked it at the post office on my way home from work, came back out and when I started it the engine shook real hard like it was running on 3cyl. or something, and a large plume of sweet smelling steam came up from the front part of the motor underneath. I knew that smell and figured my water pump or a hose sprung a leak. I hit the gas and it perked right up and went away, drove home with no problem, temp gauge was right on it's mark(just after 3:00). Let the car sit awhile, went back out and started it, same thing, only lots of smoke from the tail pipe, but was 25degrees and I figure it was just cold. Next day I decided to investigate further and noticed right off the coolant reseviour was near empty.
I pulled the #4 plug and sure enough I could see the nice amber stuff I had replaced the green stuff with last summer right after getting the car. I turned the motor over with no spark just to watch it spit the stuff out of the hole. What really sucks is I went through effort of completely draining the system last summer & replacing the fluid with the G05 stuff(special thanks to Swedcar for his posts on this) and Townsend's lessons on coolant & head gaskets of course. Well, my old grey mare is as good as dead now, she still starts and runs good when warmed up, but I can't drive her anymore, you know the deal. This car grew on me like no other car I've owned, I was really beginning to enjoy it, especially that heated seat!
Anyone out their ever pay for this repair? If so I would appreciate you posting the cost.
