Quick & dirty repair Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Who Do I call for help, Deborah Scheid, Wed, 26 Jan 2005 18:28:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Do the headlights flop towards the middle? Can you see where the upper outside corner has come loose from the adjustment post?
That's a really common problem. I've had it on two of my 900s.
As long as there is nothing broken like the black support on back of the headlight or the "bucket" behind the headlight, the white plastic bushings that hold the headlight onto the adjustment posts have worn.
This is the quick and dirty way I temporarily fixed it on my '88 900S before I learned what part to buy: make a 2" square of newspaper 6 or 8 sheets thick. Put it between the ball of the adjustment post and the black plastic pylon and give that corner a sharp push with the palm of your hand. The newsprint takes up the slack worn into the white plastic bushing. If it doesn't go on, try it again after taking a thickness or two out of the square of newsprint.
Now, as flame protection, this isn't what you'd call a proper repair, but it worked for months at a time for me in salty, wet Central New York winters back before I had the wherewithal to properly fix it. And it kept the car passing New York State inspections.
