Trace the wires to be safe Posted by Saabpilot [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Factory Radio Connector, Marshall Carpenter, Fri, 28 Jan 2005 20:04:17 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
If the factory harness is gone and the colors on your wires don't appear to match what Doug has, or even if they do, it is well worth your time to trace the wires. Hopefully Saab got better in some years but when I installed a new stereo on my '87 convertible last year I found out that the OEM Saab connector and wire colors did not match the electrical diagram in the Bentley manual. I also have a factory manual with the same diagram and it did not match. This probably explains why the prior owner's stereo sounded horrible.
I ended up using a volt meter in continuity check mode (it beeps when both leads are on the same wire) and traced every single wire to find out for sure what they did. In my case I found out the speaker wire colors did not connect to what the electrical diagram said they did. Of course with a used car and several prior owners you can never be sure who did what to the car and it's wiring. It took me a good hour to trace everything but was well worth the time.
