Found banjos at Napa @ $4.50 -- use brake line tool . . Posted by Devin [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: The fuei filter from hell -advice?, kyle morley, Mon, 31 Jan 2005 13:28:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had the same problem in the Fall while performing a routine FF change. My hose split at the banjo fitting. Dealer would only sell whole line with banjo for $200+. If there's enough slack in the line you can attach a new one. Or get the old one out and hit the barb with a torch until it comkes clean. However, my barb was messed up and it wouldn't seal tight.
Guy at NAPA told me the banjo fitting is an old CIS part common to VW/Audi/Saab. Take your old one in and have them match it up. If NAPA in your area doesn't have it, try an indy parts place that stocks stuff for old Euro cars.
To get the barbs back into the line you need to hold the line tight with the $18 brake flaring tool from Autozone. Get a piece of rubber tubing just bigger than the brake line and cut it open, then slip it over the line, then clamp the line and the tubing with the flare tool and leave just enough hanging over to fit one barb. Do this x3 and you're set. It's only compicated until you do it. If you search "flare tool" or something there'll be more helpful posts.
My car sat for a week until I figured all of this out. Only took 20 minutes or so once I got the right stuff.
