Sweating vacuum lines Posted by Saana88 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Let's move on to the B212 questions of the week- the vacuum hose that goes from the intake to the PCV fitting on the valve cover, the smaller of the two, appears to have oil or some other liquid "sweating" out of it as the car is in storage. Is this good? Are the oil fumes from the crankcase eating through or dissolving through the hose while it sits in storage?
I can't find any fuel leaks at the rail or number 1 or 2 injectors, and they haven't been used anyway. The engine hasn't run since the first week in January. If I have to I'll change the hose to some other material, but so far all the other lines are fine. What the heck's going on here? I doubt it's washer fluid out of the check valves either because everything else in the vicinity (wiring harness, fuel injectors and rail, valve cover, etc.) is dry.
Second question: it looks like there are a pair of crudely-fashioned brackets on the back of the timing chain cover. Were these intended to hold cable ties to the wiring harness to keep it off the belts? I think Townsend had some mention of that. Unfortunately, they're not connected at the present time.
