'88 CV Suffers Sudden Death Syndrome on the road

Just resurrected my '88 convertible. New plugs, wires, rotor, cap,
fuel filter. Got her running nice for the past two weeks.
On the way home from work, with the engine warm (10 miles in heavy, stop-go traffic) she died on me while turning a corner (right turn if that helps).
Plenty of charge power. Starter turns agressively. Plenty of spark from the plugs. Plenty of fuel under pressure at the rail.
Did notice the following: 1) Odor or rotten eggs (briefly) 2) smoke and the odor or hot rubber. Checked around the engine. It was dark outside so it was hard to pinpoint where the smoke was coming from. It seemed to be coming from behind the engine.
The belts were all fine. I removed the air conditioner some time ago
so there are only three belts in play (the two for the alternator
and the other one....).
Not sure what to check when the sun comes up. any ideas will be appreciated.
Frank
