Are you thinking, perhaps, of the USA versions of the old series 99 models? Euro lights give better patterns, in any case, although some of my in-laws in Finland in the SAAB 99 era had cars retrofitted to American style 4 headlamp systems because, at least for a while, they were allowed to run with 4 euro-code lights with both high and low beam bulbss in all 4. I can understand that with the long winter nights and all the moose on the road, but they also did one other trick: they had the farthest left socket equipped with a British style E-code unit aimed way to the left, so that they had an up angle on the left side of the road, too, but without it being in the eyes of oncoming traffic except for a fraction of a second as they passed one another.
