troubleshooting a fuel delivery problem

While driving home last night my 87 SPG started lurching and losing power. Initially it happened when I applied extra gas tried to accelerate. By the time I got home the car was barely able to maintain a speed of 25 mph. I went through some of the usual suspects as per my car, cap and rotor, spark plugs, fuses...etc. Upon trying to restart the car after the checks, the engine simply turned over and did not even catch at all. I suspected that I had incorrectly replaced one of the above usual suspects but later determined that they were not at fault.
Anyways, since this is becoming a bit long, this morning I remembered that the fuel pump should turn on for approx. 5 seconds when the key is turned to the on position. Alas I did not hear the pump turn on.
So my question is... Where do I go from here?
thanks!
Adrian
