I've heard of the propane trick Ray speaks of, and even saw it once, at a safe distance. My approach is to methodically check each and every hose. The ends like to crack right at the nipple, where the most stress is. I also move hoses around and see if the engine speed changes; once I had an intake hose with a split on the bottom - if you pressed down on the hose, the split opened up. Also check all the hoses.
Frankly, I suspect the AMM (Air Mass Meter, or Mass Air Flow). Unfortunately, the only good solution is to try a known good one. Be aware that although the AMM looked alike all through the years, they were very different. The wrong one will fit in just fine, but won't work, and may damage the ECU. From Larry West's fine LH Page (http://homepage.mac.com/ljwest/test/LHparts.html), your car takes the -008, which is only in '91 and up.
