Re: 89 engine into 88 spg - No big problems Posted by RS [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: 89 engine into 88 spg, Pedro, Sun, 27 Feb 2005 18:23:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There will be a few differences:
- '88 has a switch on the block back between the intake runners for cylinders 1 & 2 to disable the upshift light when the engine is cold. I don't believe that the '89 has that. Just connect the 2 leads together.
- '88 has a different AIC than the '89. Use the one from the '88 because it's compatible with the wiring harness and LH 2.2 fuel injection.
- '88 has a different Hall-effect connector on the side of the distributor than the '89. If it's not broken or falling off from your '88 distributor, reuse that. If you use the distributor from the '89, you'll need to splice a new connector onto the wiring harness to match it.
Other than that, no significant differences between the engines for the two years as far as installation goes.
