The 900's Achilles' Heel? Posted by Saana88 [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I spent twelve hours working on my car Friday. Water pump, alternator bushings, oil pressure sensor, heater core, radiator hoses, heater hoses (were original- date stamped Jan/March '87!) and a few miscellaneous things. I got it back together and everything seemed to be working great. In fact, it is working fine, at least the things I fixed.
Unfortunately, I removed enough bolts now that the timing chain cover has begun to leak oil. My friend tells me the pressurized oil pump output flows through cavities in this cover and it is only sealed with a protective gasket. His SPG has leaked here for a few years.
(Expletive)
You have to pull the motor to fix that. Oil is leaking on the crank pulley, belts, and exhaust pipe, to name a few. I estimate the engine is leaking a quart of oil every thousand miles now. Before the engine consumed oil at the rate of around two tenths of a quart for every 7500-mile oil change.
Aside from weekly driveway-cleanings and hating myself for what I'm doing to the environment, what do I do?
