I've been using my '88 900S (non-turbo) as daily driver for last 6 years, I'm responsible for logging the latest ~75,000 miles of the 332,750 on the odometer. It's still rock solid and will make 400k if I have to push it.

My only caveat for you is that, while I can't say for sure, I think that part of the reason for my car's longevity is the lack of turbo. I recently picked up an '88 900T and I gotta tell you, the urge to put the pedal to the floor as I go through the gears is nearly irresistable. I'm not dissin' my '88 NA, I LOVE the car, but it's a rather staid version compared to the turbo but well-suited for it's job. I'll do my best to keep up with maintenance and repairs on the T, but I don't expect it to see 300k.

As they said in the '60s: Speed kills.

On the other hand, if you have to do a 105 mile daily commute on highway, I can't imagine a nicer ride. You'll merge or pass with confidence in the power and handling, and in the event of misfortune (500 miles/week exposes you to plenty of idiots and accidents), you'll be driving one of the safest cars ever to ply the roads.

Just be prepared to take prompt care of the small stuff by yourself. Few of the common Saab 900 repairs require much more than a decent metric socket set, a collection of Torx bits, and a willingness to get your hands dirty from time to time. Best of all, we all have the Saabnet for commiseration and questions.

I say go for it, and let us know what you find.
