Dear Fellow C900 Enthusiasts,

The time has come for me to make the hard decision, and put my trusty 88 900T out to Car Parts Pasture. I have been putting this decision off for quite a while, knowing it was becoming inevitable. My decision is based on a couple of major flaws with the car. 1) The body is rusting right out from underneath me, in all the usual Saab softspots (fenders and doors) 2) There is a major need for front end work (ball joints, front struts, maybe tie-rod ends), and the remainder of small glitches that are annoying, at best. Still, something has to be said for the little car that could. I spent $1500 on Simon the Saab 3 years ago, with 187k on the odo at that time. Now, I'm at 229,000, and have had only a few minor repair issues along the way. Still, I've run out of time/energy/fundage for the repairs that my car deserves, and I'm coming to this site to ask what to expect if I want to sell my car for parts.

There is a less-than-6-month old cat-back exhaust system on the car, as well as a similarly aged alternator. These parts alone were about $500, and I figured that's what I could get for the entire car, as is. It can be driven (though I wouldn't recommend it, for safety's sake), and if someone is interested in keeping it on the road, they should know they have a project ahead of them. I guess what I'm wondering is if it is worth me posting it for sale, as a parts car ONLY, and selling the car, or should I just get rid of it a la scrap yard style? Whatdya think?

Let me know I'm not alone with my sadness in having to part with the first car I've really loved to drive.

If there are others out there that have been in my dillema, please stand up and be counted :) I truly do love Simon the Saab, and would buy another one in a heartbeat (though it would have to be a turbo conv with a stick shift, 93 or 94 model year of course).

Yet Another Crazy Saab Owner,
Thom
