Ahhh, 8 valve advice.
1. Clean around the throttle body
2. Spray some penetrant in idle valve (poor idle problems only)
When my 88 did the same thing, though, it was either the
3. Thermoswitch
or
4. Desperate need of FI cleaner or dry gas.
Then move on to checking fuel system pressures, relay functions, fuel pump delivery, compression, et cetera.
My guess, if it's not the typical 8 valve startup (remedies above), is either a fuel pump or dying ignition amplifier/pulse relay/control unit thingie. It's ceramic, and fastened with two screws to the LF inner fender near the charcoal canister and O2 sensor modulating valve.
