Over the weekend I replaced battery in my ’93 Saab 900 convertible. While doing so, I accidentally allowed the + Positive Battery Terminal to touch the negative lead from the vehicle, and at the same time the - negative battery terminal touched the positive (red) lead from the car. Duration of the contact was about 2 seconds.

Sparks flew for about 2 seconds before I could get the leads away from the battery. After several minutes of concern that I’d fried most of the electrical systems in the vehicle, I was please do find out that only 2 systems seem to have been affected:

1. The Radio – I checked all 3 fuses that I know about, (the 1 radio fuse under the back seat, and the 2 located on the back wall of the Saab Radio “install case/shell” that the radio slides in and out of). Only the 5 amp fuse on the back wall of the install case/shell was blown. After replacing it, the radio still has zero power of any kind. I’ve tried sliding my radio into my neighbor’s ’91 900, and it worked in his car so we know the radio itself isn't the problem.

Are there any other electrical connections, radio systems, or fuses I may be un-aware of between the battery and the back wall of the radio install case/shell? What else could have been fried?

2. My Day-time running lights (front) – These used to work prior to the battery sparks flying, now the front day-time running lights only work when the car is placed in reverse.

Any advice on where to look to diagnose these problems would be a HUGE help!

No more sparks a flyin’
Jason
