George is one of the great guys behind the parts counter at Sports Car Centre.
The OEM switch is way better than the aftermarket switch.
Supposedly, you can adjust the point at which the pedal hits by bending a tab, but I've never needed to adjust it. The spring could get weak, but none of mine have ever done that.
I was able to do just what you did (minus the breaking part): replace the brake light switch by touch without removing the lower dash in a parking lot when the switch failed on a trip back to Salt City a few years ago.
Ken is right in the respect that it's good to remove the lower dash in order to actually see what's down there.
