LH 2.2 didn't have very good fault codes. LH2.4 has AMM fault codes.
Again, it depends on how 'bad' bad is. AMM's don't usually die totally. Instead, the response to airflow gets poor - the voltage out for mass air flow goes down. The driveability can get poor before the problem is big enough to trip a fault code.
And the fault codes only point you in the direction of the problem. All the LH knows is that the engine conditions don't line up with the measured airflow. Yes, it could be a weak AMM, but it could also be a bad O2 sensor, vacuum leak, coolant temp sensor, FPR, lots of things. Now, if the AMM has NO output, the LH detects that pretty easily. But you have to be careful with LH codes - rarely, if ever, do they point directly to the exact problem (Replace the X).
