mechanic frustration...

here's the deal. I took my car into a local mechanic about 3 weeks ago with a no start condition. He quickly determined that it had no spark (as I had initially told him). First was the R&R of the ignition amp and then the replacing the old wires pretty far back into the harness. Still didn't work. Next came the R&R of the hall sensor. However, they replaced it with a newer version. Afterwards they adjusted the timing to spec. End result: The car now starts up but is absolutely gutless. Being late in the day I was forced to drive the car all the way home (about 7 mi). As I got closer to home the car started losing more and more power till finally the rubber grommet near throttle body blew off the intake maifold due to what could only be either excessive backpressure or boost from the turbo. I was looking right at the turbo gauge and it was within normal limits when it happened....
Sorry for being long winded... Any ideas? I took the car back to the shop and told them the same, but somehow I really don't trust them too much considering that they said two mechanics test drove it before giving it back to me.
oh yeah I forgot to mention that the car is an 87 SPG
Thanks!
