You made this post some time ago, and as far as I can see, it's the only one involving this grinding kit. Just wondering what the cost was vs. relpacement of the rotors; and how well it worked, other tips, etc. FYI, this will be done in a driveway, but so have all the other repairs over the last ~7 years. And I have no dial indicator to check run-out. Is this a problem? Thanks in advance.
"Saab makes a rotor grinding kit that works damn fino on the front wheels...uses the engine to turn the rotors while these aluminum pads that you cover with emery cloth grind the rotor smooth. I also use a 3" 3M brake surfacing disk on a power drill to non-directionally sand the rotors after grinding them with the emery cloth. No squeals, ever.
It also helps to knock off the ridge on the outside of the rotor...can use a 4" grinder, be careful not to bevel the outside 5/32" of the rotor (no harm, it's just that much less swept area for your brakes). The brakes will bed in quicker."
