Corroded Heater Pipe Boss front of Cylinder Head in 88 Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Sun, 17 Apr 2005 11:45:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Flushed out my 88 NA 900 cooling system today including opening engine block drain and put in Mercedes coolant(p/n Q1030002). Changed to 82-degree thermostat and fan switch. Also replaced the little 90-degree hose between heater pipe that runs along cylinder head and was amazed at the corrosion of boss where little 90-degree hose goes into cylinder head. Has anyone ever tried cutting off this boss on front of cylinder head and threading in a brass coupling? Also have a temperature gauge that goes to max when connected to coolant temp sender on front of cylinder head or shorted to engine ground and goes to zero when sender is disconnected. Temp sender appears to be in spec at 56-ohms when fans are cycling. Strangely the gauge does work properly sometimes.
