Okay, here's the background:
Car is my '74 99LE rally car, but it has a lot of 900 stuff, hence the post here (but perhaps I will cross post to the 99 board). Firewall mods to accommodate an 8v H-motor out of an '85 900 Sport. Build to Group 2/D rules - normally aspirated, makes maybe 100hp.
-tranny is a 4-speed from a '78
-new master spec'd for an -87 900 IIRC
-new Saab OE slave - 900 stuff
-resurfaced aluminum flywheel
-newish AP pressure plate - spec'd for a 900T
-newish disc - also for a 900T
-new factory clutch line
Problem - the clutch slips! There is no way it should slip, not with that little power! This problem sidelined me out of my first rally back in November, and with the next event next month, I don't want it to happen again. The new slave seemed to cure the problem, but I just put another 10km (maybe 20km total after the last clutch job) and it's slipping again.
Everything cleaned nicely with brake clean before reassembly. No fluid leaks from the upper rad hose or anything.
On inspection, for some reason it seems the slave is being held open. I could almost get a the clutch spacer ring in there WITHOUT depressing the pedal! Loosening up the bleeder screw does nothing - the pressure plate fingers do not 'relax', and I cannot move the release bearing or anything, it's wedged in there.
Ideas? I'm desperate! About the only thing I can think of is the clutch line, but if the problem was hydraulic, loosening the bleeder screw should do something, right?
