Finding the right Ait Filter - 1994 900 Convertible

I want to get a K&N airfilter for my 1994 900 Turbo convertible 2.0L Commemorative Edition but I am having trouble. The identifiers on my car indicate that it was built in 1993 but the owner’s manual and the title confirm that it is a 1994 model. I have checked at least 7 websites and they all list the wrong airfilter. Most of them specify part number 33-2663 which is the flat panel (dimensions: Panel; H 1.25 in.; L 6.25 in.; W 11.187 in.) I am familiar with this filter because I is the same one that I used to have in my 1988 Saab 900. I removed the airfilter from my 1994 and found that it is a round cylinder. (dimensions: H 9.0 in; ID 3.4 in.; OD 6.0 in.) It also has the markings “3070” on one end.
The closest K&N filter that I can find is the E-2457 which has dimension that are very close: H 9.125 in.; ID 3.625 in.; OD 5.375 in. This is listed as a replacement for a 1993 Saab 900.
My question is: should I purchase the E-2457 or is there a better alternative? and … Why did I get a 1993 airfilter system in my 1994 car?
I welcome your comments.
