If you post this in NG900, I'm sure it's probably the other way around... But, I've had HARROWING experience with '96 900 SET. In one year of ownership, bought from a nice old lady with 60k miles, I've had check engine light nightmare, changed DI, headgasket leak, AC didn't work, poor mpg (22mpg on highway), power seat intermittent, coolant hose leak, motor mount out, SID pixels out, idler pulley melted, warped brake rotors, and FINALLY, the engine blew a rod and put a big gaping hole in the lower block at 79k. I swapped the engine out. Wrote it off as DIY experience and traded to '95 9000 Aero, which is much better (so far, just minor issues that did not strand me).
I'm biased to C900, especially SPG's and turbo convertibles. But the ones that I've had were not that reliable either, as these cars are getting older. You really need to find a C900 turbo that has been well taken care of. I've had two blown axles, alternator failure, coolant hose failure, and busted throw out bearing, all of which stranded me. But I can blame these to age (as mine is 225k miles old), where as NG900 was just poorly designed/built.
Good luck,
James from Michigan...
