Was the top of the fuel pump wet? Mine had a small puddle of gas on top of the pump. In my case, the electrical connector plug on top of the fuel melted slightly when the fuel pump was drawing too much current. The tank is pressurized, so when it was full, the gas would push out the hole and leave a puddle on top. It can also be a crack in the pressure fittings, on top of the fuel pump.
You almost have to treat it like a fat lady, roll it in flour and look for the wet spot.
